It was cooking hot at the Night Noodle Markets last weekend, and I don’t mean just the noodles in the wok, as a friend and I turned up at the markets to be greeted by a very lively market atmosphere.
The Night Noodle Markets at the Elizabeth Quay is being held as part of Good Food Month Perth.
The suburb of Inglewood in Perth was buzzing with a hive of activity as we headed to the Inglewood night markets on a Monday night. The person behind the idea for the markets is none other than the “Prince of Flesh” Vince Garreffa of Mondo Butchers whose vision is to bring to life the laneways of Inglewood. The markets have been running since their big opening night on Monday 8 December 2014, and it has certainly brought out every man, woman and his dog from the burbs which are usually quiet on Monday evenings.
On a balmy evening, we decided to head down to the Maylands Twilights Markets at The Rise. The markets are a new initiative which kicked off on the Australia Day weekend, and are a popular Saturday night event amongst locals and visitors from other suburbs.
There are plenty of food and drink offerings among the food stalls lining both sides of the grassy amphitheatre. Marcelitas’ Empanadas from the Twilight Hawker markets in the CBD were there and busy as usual, and The Amaizing Stall with its twist on Venezuelan and Australian fusion food was doing a great trade with their offerings of arepa bread, made from maize.
Maylands hawkers markets kicked off the season on Saturday 1 November with the theme of Day of the Dead and it certainly kicked off with a bang. It was a full house and when we arrived, we were greeted to a huge crowd of patrons, family, kids and dogs in tow, in the area outside the Maylands RISE.
Though it was quite crowded, it was a friendly atmosphere, with people enjoying their meal, chatting, talking, and checking out the food stalls. Kids were kept entertained playing amongst themselves, and running around on the grassed areas.
The markets had a lively atmosphere, and the usual suspects were there.
Looking for the best vegetables in Perth? Tucked away in the back streets of Inglewood you’ll find a stall selling fresh and crisp heirloom vegetables. Mark is the man who runs this unassuming vegetable stall in front of Mondos’ Butchers. He is there rain or shine each Saturday from around 8.30am to 2.30pm selling the fruits of his labours.
