Who the heck is this Xavier bloke that writes about his FIFO adventures in Australia?!
In case you were wondering - yes, poor Xavier does go out of his mind at the mines, as told through his latest book “Going out of my Mined”.
Hot off the stage from performing The Dinner Party (totally hilarious!) at Fringe World Perth 2016 recently, Xavier continues the story of his FIFO adventures with the sequel to his first book “Mining my Own Business”.His 2nd book aptly named “Going out of my Mined” makes a great read for those looking for an uncut insight into life as a FIFO worker as told through the lens of Xavier.
The Lake’s Apprentice is a book about nature that explores Lake Yalgorup, a chain of lakes between Mandurah and Bunbury in Western Australia as seen through the eyes of the author Annamaria Weldon.
Weldon explores the lakes through a set of keen eyes, and as the reader it is lovely to see her exuberance around such a unique landscape as told through her compilation of essays, poems, photography and notes.
As she visits the lake, she observes a myriad of things, each time a little different, another observation, another encounter with nature.
Having finished reading Xavier Toby's book Mining My Own Business - a funny and interesting read, I thought that readers at Perth Walkabout would enjoy hearing from Xavier about his inspiration for writing his first book, along with answers to a few other questions that I wanted to quiz our Australian comedian on.
Without further ado, here is the Q&A blog post interview that we did recently:
Personal Effects by Carmel Macdonald Grahame is an intimate account of the lives of Lilith and Ross, a middle age couple, as told through the eyes of the main character Lilith. As the story unfolds, Lilith takes you on a journey about her personal life as well as on a travel journey between two main locations - Cervantes, Perth and Calgary, Canada.
Xavier Toby has struck comedy gold again, this time with his book Mining My Own Business, about his adventures whilst working Fly in Fly out (FIFO) on a minesite somewhere in Australia.
As an impoverished comedian making ends meet, Xavier is forced to take all manner of jobs to make ends meet while pursuing his passion of being a comedian.
This time around he has landed a well paid admin job up in the mines which will go a long way towards getting him out of debt, but at what cost?
