BAA
BAA BLACK SHEEP
60 Royal St, East Perth
corner of Plain St
I arrived at Baa Baa Black Sheep at around 7.30am for an early morning
(well, early for me!) breakfast catch up with my friend. The name
of this café always brings a grin to my face. I seated myself
on one of the sofa chairs soaking up the ambiance of the place as
I read leisurely through the newspapers. The morning sun cast a
nice warm feel through the café as light jazz music played
in the background.
The
Baa Baa Black Sheep is one of the cafes forming part of the Cove
Promenade. It adjoins The Sebel Residence hotel which is all within
the Claisebrook Village, East Perth precinct.
Claisebrook has seen quite a transformation with many new restaurants
and cafes opening up, and makes a nice alternative to the usual
Northbridge, Leederville, Subiaco and Mt Lawley café strips.
My
friend arrived and we ordered at the counter. The service is friendly
and there was flexibility with varying the menu to suit customer
requests. I inquired as to whether I could order scrambled eggs
and toast instead of bacon and eggs and this did not pose a problem
at all.
The
price for breakfast items ranged from approximately $7 to $12. This
included bacon and eggs, oven baked ham and cheese croissant, fruit
compote with muesli, and pancakes with infused maple syrup. The
pancakes sounded rather decadent but nonetheless delectable for
an early morning breakfast.
We
ordered scrambled eggs with toast, an oven baked ham and cheese
croissant, a cappuccino and flat white. The counter also beckoned
us with large mandarin and chocolate muffins and freshly baked croissants,
but this would have to be sampled another time.
Baa
Baa Black Sheep had quite a few patrons for breakfast including
business suit types, and local Claisebrook residents. There is an
alfresco seating area on offer where one can watch the world go
by. As we waited for our breakfast, i noticed huge bowls of fruit
compote with muesli being served up to several patrons. This seemed
to be a popular item and would make a healthy breakfast.
Our breakfast was served to us reasonably quickly. My mountain of
scrambled eggs arrived accompanied with 2 pieces of wholemeal toast
unbuttered as I had requested. I found my scrambled eggs to be particularly
fluffy and enjoyed working my way through the eggs and toast. My
friend's oven baked ham and cheese croissant also looked delicious.
The coffee was good.
This
place is a happening place and has a great feel about it. It is
cool and upbeat but not pretentious.
