LA PORCHETTA
505 Walter Road East, Morley
Ph: 9379 0888

On the occasions that I have driven along Walter Road East on weeknights, I have noticed that La Porchetta does pretty busy trade. It is housed in a modern building with ample seating capacity and plenty of parking. There is a group of old shops nearby but La Porchetta is pretty much on its own loneside and would easily attract locals as there is not much else nearby to entice the hungry customer.

La Porchetta offers an extensive range of pizza, pasta, risotta and meat dishes. Pizzas come in small ($6.50), medium ($7.50) and large ($8.50) sizes. There are some 19 varieties of traditional pizza on offer along with another 5 varieties each of handmade and gourmet pizza. There are also the usual pasta dishes on offer including bolognese, carbonara, lasagna and cannelloni.

Meat dishes encompass a range including veal and chicken schnitzel, veal scaloppini, garlic prawns, fried calamari and seafood basket. These dishes are priced from $14 for the veal schnitzel to $20.50 for the seafood basket.

On this particular night, my friend and I chose to takeaway a small smoked salmon pizza and an alla matriciana (lean bacon pieces, red capsicum, onion, hot chilli in a homemade tomato and basil sauce) for the pasta dish. I was pretty hungry and was pondering whether a small serve of each dish would be enough to tide my hunger. I went with my friend's suggestion to order small serves, as she was already a tried and tested customer of La Porchetta.

The smoked salmon pizza was fairly generous on the smoked salmon and quite a cheesy pizza. I was somewhat glad that my friend had suggested ordering only small serves as the pizza was quite filling. The entrée serve of the pasta was very generous and we both tucked into it. There was no hint of hot chilli in the pasta which we were disappointed with, but we made a note to request the chilli (which we later realised is optional) for next time.

On the menu, I notice a website address www.laporchetta.com.au that I browsed out of curiosity. I discovered that La Porchetta is a pizza franchise that had its beginnings in Melbourne and has just under 100 restaurants across Australia.

La Porchetta is a convenient restaurant that is reasonably priced and well frequented by the locals. I am sure that patrons from elsewhere have by now discovered La Porchetta. If you haven't already discovered La Porchetta I suggest you make a visit.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
