Goodies on offer at the Environment House, Maylands
The Environment
House is a shopfront promoting care for the environment and sustainable
living and is also home to the Perth EcoShop. It is certainly worth
a visit to learn how to live more sustainably and to tread more
lightly on our planet. The Environment House is a community association,
run by friendly volunteers and with support from sponsors.
The Environment
House is located in the suburb of Maylands, approximately 4kms from
the Perth CBD. It's very easy to get to by train. From the Perth
CBD, catch the train to Maylands train station. Once you get off
at Maylands train station, walk approximately half way down the
cafe strip on Eight Avenue. Look out for The Environment House on
the right hand side.
Whether you
just want to browse the EcoShop or learn more about how you can
be kinder and respect our environment, there are plenty of resources
and products on hand at the Environment House to get you started.
The EcoShop
stocks a selection of household products containing ingredients
that are less damaging to the environment. These include shampoo,
soap, cleaning and general household products. Laundry products
such as the Miracle Wash Laundry Balls are free of harmful ingredients
such as phosphate and sodium laureth sulphate.
Choose from
Enviro Care, Enviro Clean and Enviro Pet products. If you are just
getting started for example with the environmentally friendly cleaning
products, pay a couple of extra dollars to buy a container, and
you can bring the container back for a refill of your product.
The Environment
House also stocks a selection of other products. These include Green's
scrumptious organic chocolates, Fairtrade coffee, tea and hot chocolate,
books, and a selection of natural soaps, essential oils and Tinderbox
products which make great gifts.
A range of courses
are also on offer by The Environment House including learning how
to set up a worm farm, methods of composting, using food scraps
and fertilising in your garden. You can also purchase composters
such as the Compost Mate and the Eco-Organics Bokashi fermentation
bin from The Environment House.
Think
you can cut down on energy and water consumption at home but don't
know how? The Environment House offers a free service to your home
to audit your energy and water consumption and to recommend how
you can reduce your consumption.
The
Environment House also offers a mail order service if you find it
difficult or too far away to drop in.
Or
perhaps you would like to do your bit and be a volunteer. There
are plenty of different ways that you can be a volunteer at The
Environment House including helping to man the EcoShop and tending
to the vegie patch out back of the shop.
How
to get there
Catch
the train to Maylands station. Walk down the Eight Avenue cafe strip.
it's on your right about half way down before you reach Guildford
Road.
