Airfares to/from Perth

So you have enjoyed your time in the West and would like to head across to the Eastern States (maybe Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane) to do some more travelling within Australia. Or maybe you are heading across from the Eastern States to the sunny West of Australia. Need to find out whether you can get any cheap airfares to/from Perth?

Historically, Qantas has been the long time air carrier dominating the domestic market in Australia. Over the years, the likes of Virgin Blue, Jetstar, and Tiger Airways Australia have provided some healthy competition.

Within Western Australia

Skywest
www.skywest.com.au

Skywest is the major air carrier within WA. The cost of travel is approximately from $200 for a one way ticket depending on destinations. Coverage of flight destinations extends up north to the Kimberley Region including the popular destination of Broome and down south to the Great Southern Region including Albany. Fare prices will vary depending on special deals on offer. Holiday packages which combined airfares, accommodation and care hire are also available. Skywest also flies to Melbourne, Darwin, and Bali.

Within Australia

So you have enjoyed your time over in the West and would like to head across to the Eastern States. The main air carriers for interstate travel are Qantas, Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Tiger Airways Australia. Fare prices are competitive between the operators. It's best to check fare prices on the websites of individual carriers as prices will vary depending on a range of factors including special deals on offer, destinations, seasonal variations, school holidays and the occurrence of special and major events. The air carriers also offer holiday packages which may combine airfares, accommodation, car hire and travel insurance.

Qantas

Qantas is the longest running Australia air carrier with its beginnings dating back to the 1920s. It was originally named the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd. Today, it is known as the "Spirit of Australia" and is distinguished by its iconic kangaroo symbol. Its services are based on a more traditional business model with the cost of fares inclusive of meals and entertainment.

Virgin Blue
www.virginblue.com.au

Virgin Blue the brainchild of Richard Branson's Virgin Group entered the Australian market in early 2000 shortly before the collapse of Ansett in 2001. Its formula of offering "no frills" air flights has been very successful. You pay for a standard ticket, and have the option to pay for other extras on board such as meals, entertainment, and extra leg room.

Jetstar
www.jetstar.com

Jetstar is owned by Qantas and launched its services in 2004 as a low cost carrier to give Virgin Blue a run for its money. In November 2007, Jetstar introduced an additional service from Perth to Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne to add to its existing service from Perth to Avalon Airport, Melbourne which has been operating since 2006. Note that if departing from Perth, Jetstar only goes to Melbourne. Jetstar also provides low cost air travel within other parts of the Asia Pacific region.

Tiger Airways Australia
www.tigerairways.com.au

Tiger Airways Australia is the newest kid on the block for air travel within Australia. Tiger Airways Australia launched its services in Australia in 2007 and it is headquartered at Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne. Tiger Airways has been a budget carrier in the Asia Pacific region since 2004 with Singapore Airlines being one of its founding partners. Its airfares are competitive and it is certainly giving the other local air carriers a run for their money.
