Visitor Information

Perth Airport

The Perth Airport operates all domestic and international flights arriving and departing from Perth, Western Australia. The Perth Airport consists of the Perth Domestic Airport and the Perth International Airport, both located in the same area.

The Perth Airport is located east of Perth city and is approximately 10.5 kms from the city and should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes travel time to reach the city.

The Perth Airport is adjacent to other Eastern suburbs such as Cloverdale, Kewdale and South Guildford. Note that the domestic and international airports are accessed from different points. To get to the Perth International Airport, access is via Tonkin Highway and then the main road to the airport is Horrie Miller Drive. To get to the Perth Domestic Airport, access is via Great Eastern Highway and then the main road to the airport is Brearley Avenue.

The Perth Airport has three terminals. T1 Terminal is located on the eastern side of the runway for international flights. T2 and T3 Terminals are located on the western side of the runway for domestic flights, both interstate and intrastate. The main operators of domestic flights are Qantas and Virgin Blue for interstate flights and Skywest Airlines for intrastate flights. In late 2007, Tiger Airways and Jetstar commence flying from Perth to Melbourne.

The good or bad news depending on how you view it is that there are no additional taxes or charges to pay at the Perth Airport as these are already included in your airfare. International airfares includes a Departure Tax (also referred to as a Passenger Movement Tax) of AUS $38 per person. The airline operators also include in the cost of your airfare various charges such as the Fuel Surcharge and a range of Security Charges.

Some interesting snippets of history about the Perth Airport include that it was previously the Dunreath golf course in the early 1940s. The golf course was then converted to a base for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) until the end of World War Two with runways built for the RAAF fighters. Prior to being known as the Perth Airport, it was named the Guildford Aerodrome and used for the larger commercial aircraft that the old Perth (Maylands) airport site could not cope with. Today, the old Perth (Maylands) airport site is home to the Maylands Public Golf Course.
