Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinemas has kicked off its first season at its open air location in the Perth CBD, with the cinemas already proving popular at other locations around Australia. We headed off to the city for the evening with snacks and picnic rugs in tow and got to the open air cinemas early, looking forward to watch the romance About Time, from Richard Curtis, the same person who brought us Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Love Actually.

The location of the open air cinemas is on the corner of Plain Street and Riverside Drive, and you can either purchase your tickets online in advance, or book on the night.

Black-Swan-Streetcar-Named-Desire-190

Black Swan State Theatre Company's production of A Streetcar Named Desire is now showing at the State Theatre Centre of WA until the 6 April.

A Streetcar Named Desire is Tennessee William's classic 1947 play which begins with fading Southern belle Blanche Dubois arriving in New Orleans' French Quarter to live with her sister Stella and Stella's husband Stanley Kowalski, seeking refuge after a series of family tragedies including the death of her parents and the loss of the family home estate of Belle Reve.

Blanche epitomises the old South, with genteel values and manners, but as the play goes on we will discover that it is a facade of how she perceives herself and how she wishes the world would be.

Book Review: Stella's Sea by Sally-Ann Jones

Stella's Sea is a poignant book by local author Sally-Ann Jones set in the Perth coastal suburb of Cottesloe, centred around the main character Stella and her dog Pom. As you follow Stella throughout her day, you are privy to her innermost thoughts and feelings as she interacts with other characters such as Ari the Coastguard.

The author Sally-Ann Jones expertly narrates Stella’s life – we feel her anguish at a tragic event that has occurred in her past, a painful event that is taking her a long time to recover from. Whilst she goes about her daily routine in Cottesloe, it’s the little things that bring a spark of hope and joy to her life.
